We live at a time when the lives of people around the world
are becoming ever more inter-related. In this situation, we aim to develop a
Global Centre building, which will be safe and welcoming. The building will
house the Global Centre organisation, supporting and promoting global sustainable
development activites, and giving local people the opportunity to become involved.
Global Sustainable Development sets out to:
- Recognise the full extent of the global connections in people's everyday
lives and the opportunities and problems associated with these links;
- Promote developmental changes which are for the overall benefit of all people,
particularly those who are currently marginalised by prevailing global structures;
- Ensure that these developmental changes are built upon foundations which
are sustainable into the foreseeable future and do not hinder future generations
in their ability to lead fulfilled lives.
The work for Global Sustainable Development is seen
to have the following dimensions, both in the local community and world-wide:
- Environmental
- Developmental
- International relationships
- Multi-Cultural Diversity
- Spiritual and Religious Attitudes
- Equity, Justice and Human Rights.
In relation to these dimensions, the users and supporters
of the Centre will act in ways, which promote community relationships and development
and which:
- Safeguard the environment and the diversity of life;
- Promote human development for all people, irrespective of creed, colour,
race, disabilities, gender or sexual orientation;
- Develop peaceful and fulfilling relationships between people of different
nationalities and cultural groups;
- Respect the traditions of diverse cultural groups;
- Value the spiritual and religious natures of individuals and groups;
- Advocate just and equitable responses to the conflicts which arise among
people;
Where conflicts do rise between consideration of the different
dimensions referred to above, these conflicts will be handled in ways which
seek to respect the rights of people to different opinions and lifestyles, while
still being open to challenging, in non-violent ways, those things which individuals
or groups find to be unacceptable actions by others.
